History:

Yi Sun Sin is an incredibly important character in human history known for his strength of character and courage. For more information on his contribution to Korean history, visit the official Korean website http://www.prkorea.com/yisunsin/quotes.htm

The significance of the pattern finishing with a left hand attack can be explained as follows: Most people are right handed so the insinuation is that a left hand attack is somehow weaker and less effective than a right hand attack -indicating "holding back" or some form of restraint and curtailing of strength.

Despite all the obstacles put into Yi Sun Sin's way during his life, the mistrust of him by the King and the betrayal by his peers, despite no wrongdoing on his part, his courage, grace, humility and loyalty to those who betrayed him earned him many posthumous titles and recognition. His life was viewed to have been short of what he could have achieved and therefore he was recognised as never having been allowed to reach his full potential.
